There is nothing like chanterelle mushroom picking here in the Pacific Northwest. The thrill! the chase! associated with this gorgeous, gold-fluted fungus really cannot be replicated. So today, equipped with plastic bags and scissors, the family and I set out to capture these curly-cupped creatures. After picking at three locations, we returned with a hefty bounty of about one kilo. Now I just have to figure out what to do with all these mushrooms….

Wow!!!! A treasure trove for sure!!!!!!! Reminds me of when I was hiking in the Shenandoah Mountains and came across orange mushies. My hiking partner at the time was certain they were chanterelles. I was skeptical remembering a story of someone in NYC picking stuff in Central Park and not having a good day or a very long life. Turns out the mushies were indeed poisonous. Always good to have an expert on hand while shrooming……

Amen, Lance! I only pick chanterelles since they are the only thing I am 100% confident in identifying. There seems to be an “evil twin” to every edible mushroom I see out there, so the final step of brushing the mushrooms gives me one last chance to save me and my family from imminent death .
